zh - DAFRAM paper has been selected for Valve World Conference 2018 by the Steering Committee. Marco Sparisci (Technical Manager) presented how DAFRAM has developed a dedicated valve design for high temperature applications and has approached the very crucial aspect of coatings for components of ball valves dedicated to severe service.

Ball valves for extreme high temperature service: design and coating validation by means of bench sessions and performance tests.

Abstract:
Today, Manufacturers of piping equipment have to deal daily with new demanding process conditions including thermal shocks, repetitive thermal cycles, high differential pressures and corrosive fluids and this is due to changes in methods of processing and increasing of process durations.

In this scenario ball valve design and materials work together to grant durability and effectiveness of equipment.
For those critical applications, it is essential a dedicated valve design that takes into account effects of high temperature on both trim and body metallic components by means of Finite Element Analysis and R&D test sessions. Accurate simulation of real working conditions of coated components is possible by means of specific test bench that performs mechanical-thermal cycling and collects reliable data.
A valve design dedicated for the following case study was developed. DAFRAM was appointed as ball valve manufacturer for an innovative refining plant that is focused on efficient use of heavy residues of refining process. Modern technologies and facilities imply very demanding conditions such as high pressures (up to class 2500 ANSI) and high temperatures (up to 704 °C) for piping components. Object of product development were design validation and coating selection.
